Presentation of our guesthouse, the garden and the surrounding area.
The Mère Siphan Guesthouse is located halfway between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in Cambodia , in the village of Sangkum Thmei (Kompong Thom Province). It is a traditional Khmer wooden house built on stilts.
In this house, you will find :
- A welcoming courtyard planted with numerous tropical plants, equipped with a summer kitchen and plenty of spots for relaxation
- Upstairs, the living space . Simple, pleasant and completely open, allowing the wind to circulate freely.
- 3 double rooms + one shared room with 7 single beds
- A lush garden , as well as a vegetable garden
The garden
Our 200 m² Cambodian garden offers an authentic, fresh, and soothing tropical atmosphere . We cultivate many local plants and trees there to preserve nature, reduce pollution, and produce organic food for our family.
You will find a wide variety of species there :
- Fruit trees and vegetables : banana trees, papaya trees, coconut trees, frangipani trees, bougainvillea, hibiscus, lemon trees, guava trees, durian, passion fruit, eggplants, ...
- Plants from the Khmer vegetable garden : lemongrass, basil, chili peppers, aromatic herbs, ...
This living garden is a true natural refuge where you can observe butterflies, birds and insects , and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere typical of Khmer villages.
Environment
The village of Sangkum Thmei , located in the commune of Taing Krasaing in Kampong Thom, offers an authentic glimpse of rural Cambodia .
Surrounded by rice paddies, sugar palms and traditional wooden houses on stilts, the village lives to the peaceful rhythm of agriculture, seasonal fishing and local livestock farming .
The atmosphere is calm and welcoming : children playing near the paths, farmers working in the fields, simple markets, and small, typical temples. Travelers discover a traditional Khmer way of life, far from the hustle and bustle of big cities.
